Read, Sing, and Tell Stories

Your child learns the meaning of new words and ideas when you read, sing, and tell stories together.  The next time you introduce a new word or concept, try to explain the meaning in words your child can understand.  During the course of the day, try to repeat the new word or concept in order for your child to better understand its meaning.  Using the vocabulary word in new contexts is also helpful.  If you have a child's dictionary handy, you may enjoy seeing the word and possibly a visual to show its meaning.
